Accessible Victorian townhouse.

Design and Planning Application for a Victorian townhouse conversion into an accessible flat with a separate family home above in Hackney.

SpaceUp worked closely with our RIBA chartered Architects at our sister company Marcel Mauer to deliver a beautiful and practical design for our client Elizabeth and her client representative Godfrey in the centre of Dalston in Hackney.

Elizabeth’s requirements were very specific due to her restricted mobility and recent, serious health issues. Together, we provided a design for her tired, but still grand Victorian terrace house, which would allow her to remain in her home of 37 years in an accessible ground floor flat; whilst transforming the little-used upper floors into a brand new 4 bedroom flat which she could use to finance a long and happy retirement.

As well as providing expert advice throughout our involvement, SpaceUp interfaced with the Structural Engineer for the structural design, the Architect for the Technical Design, the Council for the CIL, the planning office for the discharge of planning conditions and reviewed and negotiated prices from the contractors saving the client upwards of £30k.

This information was collated and presented to the client as a Full Design & Build contractual document package ready for construction.

Planning Permission was submitted in August 2018 and after ongoing correspondence with the planning officer and several design iterations, permission was granted with conditions on 28 February 2019.
